Igbo has over 30 million speakers and hundreds of dialects spread across South-Eastern Nigeria. It is one of the most philosophically rich languages in the world — with concepts like Odinala (the way of the land), Chi (personal spirit), and Omenala (cultural law) that simply do not translate into English. We teach you the language. We also teach you what it means. That is the difference between speaking words and belonging to a culture.
Programme levels
Starting from zero — sounds, tones, simple phrases, and the foundational grammar of Standard Igbo.
You know basics but can't flow. We build fluid conversation across real life situations.
Conversational already, seeking depth — Igbo proverbs, oral literature, and dialectal variation.
The curriculum
More than words
There is a Igbo saying: Onye wetara oji wetara ndụ — 'He who brings kolanut brings life.' The kolanut is offered at every meaningful Igbo gathering. When you understand why — the layers of meaning behind that single object — you understand Igbo. Our teachers don't just teach language. They teach you to understand the culture so the language makes sense.
What's included
Student voices
I am half-Igbo and always felt shame that I couldn't speak it. This programme gave me my identity back. Genuinely transformative.
The pronunciation AI is excellent. My teacher would let me practise with it between sessions, then we'd refine in class. It works.
